- 1/2 cup red lentil
(masoor dal)
- 1 medium size onion
- 2 green chillies
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 2-3 tbsp oil
- 2 tsp black mustard seeds
- 1 tsp coriander
powder
- 1 tsp cumin
powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt
to taste
- fresh cilantro
Directions:
- Wash lentil very well and soak for 30 min.
- Peel off onion and chop, split chillies in two.
- In a saucepan
heat oil, add mustard and fry till they splutter, then add onion and fry for a few minutes till becomes soft. Add green chillies, tomato paste and fry 1 minute. Add 3 cups water, lentil and all spices.
- Cover with lid and boil 20-25 min on medium low heat.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve.
